Cyndi Lauper Drops By NYC's XL Nightclub For Intimate Performance With Ballets With A Twist

LOOK: Cyndi Lauper Surprises NYC Gay Club With Intimate Performance

Cyndi Lauper thrilled some of her biggest fans last week when she touched down at a New York City gay club for a super-intimate performance.

On Sept. 20, the pop icon joined acclaimed dance troupe Ballets with a Twist at Manhattan's XL Nightclub, where she opened the show with a stripped-down version of her tender 1986 hit, "True Colors."

The performance, which Lauper described as "a fun evening and a great chance to give a damn about equality," was a special benefit, with proceeds going towards the singer's True Colors Fund, which is aimed at both combating and raising awareness of homelessness among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth.

Lauper is also currently promoting her new autobiography, "Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir." Co-authored by journalist Jancee Dunn (whose credits include pieces for Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair magazines), the book delves into Lauper's early years as a struggling musician as well as the fame she experienced after her 1983 breakout, "She's So Unusual."
