For the third year, NBC News is hosting a national Education Nation Summit in New York City. The three-day event, Sept. 23-25 will bring together more than 300 of the country's thought leaders in education, government, business, philanthropy and media.

On the schedule Monday: former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, NBC's Chelsea Clinton, American Federation of Teachers Randi Weingarten, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Last year's Education Nation summit kicked off with more extensive and in-depth discussions of issues surrounding education in America, aiming to go "a little bit deeper and exploring some new areas," NBC News President Steve Capus told The Huffington Post last year. Sponsorship by the for-profit University of Phoenix, however, raised eyebrows. It remains a sponsor this year.
