Titans' 'Music City Miracle' Play Results In Touchdown Against Lions (VIDEO)

Titans Pull Off 'Music City Miracle' Throwback

They did it again? They did it again!

Late in the first quarter against the Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans special teams coach Alan Lowry called a trick play that looked awfully familiar.

Darius Reynaud was back to catch Detroit's punt near Tennessee's 40-yard line. Once he caught it, Reynaud took a couple steps and then turned and threw the ball across the field to teammate Tommie Campbell. Campbell caught the ball at the 35-yard line (meaning it was clearly a backwards lateral) and sprinted up the right sideline untouched all the way for the touchdown.

"Look at this a little throwback action. We've seen this before," the FOX announcer said, referring to Tennessee's "Music City Miracle" play back in 2000.

Trailing, 16-15, with 16 seconds remaining in a Wild Card Playoff game against the Buffalo Bills, Lowry called a similar play on the kickoff where tight end Frank Wycheck lateraled the ball across the field to Kevin Dyson. Dyson ran down the sideline and scored the game-winning touchdown, but the controversial lateral and whether it was a forward pass or not been a subject for debate ever since.

More than a decade later, Lowry made the call again. And it worked, again. The game turned into a shootout in the fourth quarter and the Titans went on to pull out the win in overtime.

The only thing the punt return touchdown was missing (besides it not being a playoff game) might have been Mike Keith's call.
