Warren Thomas Michael Pulled Over For Reckless Driving, Says Squirrel Is Eating Him: Deputies

Man Allegedly Blames Reckless Driving On Hungry Squirrel

At least someone in the vehicle was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Warren Thomas Michael III, 23, was pulled over for reckless driving last weekend and immediately explained that "he had a squirrel eating him," WPTV reports.

Officials received a call on Saturday night saying that Michael's vehicle was swerving in and out of lanes on the highway. Deputy JC Saunders was able to locate Michael, and said the Fleming Island man crashed into a stopped car head-on, then just kept driving.

When Saunders pulled Michael over shortly thereafter, the man immediately began rambling on about a hungry squirrel, according to the arrest report obtained by Jacksonville.com:

"Upon contact with the defendant he immediately told [me] he had a squirrel eating him. The defendant pointed out a small squirrel he had wrapped under his shirt. After some discussion about the squirrel I introduced myself and explained the reason for the stop."

Noting that Michael had bloodshot, glassy eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol, Saunders "had the defendant secure the squirrel and then exit the vehicle." The deputy then proceeded to administer several sobriety tests.

After allegedly doing abysmally on the tests, Michael blew two breath samples with results of .145 and .156, First Coast News reports. Florida's legal limit is .08.

Michael was charged with driving under the influence and driving without a seatbelt, and was issued a written warning for driving in an unsafe condition, KSAT reports.

Both the vehicle and squirrel were released to Michael's girlfriend.
