'Partners' Premiere: Is This Ensemble The New 'Will & Grace'? (VIDEO)

Imagine if "Will & Grace" had worked together, rather than lived together, and both characters were men. That seems to be the basic set-up behind "Partners," the new CBS sitcom by the same creators, Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. The premise is a fictionalized version of the working and personal relationship between Mutchnick and Kohan, but it still shares some striking similarities.

Like "W&G," "Partners" is a four-part ensemble, though the side characters of Ali (Joe's fiancee) and Louis (Wyatt's boyfriend) aren't nearly as outrageous as Karen and Jack. In fact, the characters are far more grounded, and intimately connected.

The closing scene -- after an episode that wandered down that worn path of best friends breaking up and then getting back together and a couple almost breaking up only to wind up engaged instead had the foursome realizing that they are four people, and three couples.

And while it all feels a little like a '90s throwback, as TVLine pointed out, it's the chemistry that's going to matter in the long run. And it's that chemistry the creators told HuffPost TV they're hoping the audience will be able to relate to.
