Paris Fashion Week is always exciting, but this season brings two particularly anticipated events: Raf Simon's ready-to-wear debut at Christian Dior and Hedi Slimane's ready-to-wear debut at Yves Saint Laurent.
Simons went first today with his Spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection, his first for Christian Dior since he took over the label last April. The designer, who left Jil Sander to fill the long-vacant Dior job, scored a smash-hit with his first Dior Couture collection, shown in June to glowing reviews (Cathy Horyn at the New York Times called it "beautiful, modest and thoroughly engaging") and actual success: pieces from the collection have been worn by Emma Watson, Julianne Moore, Marion Cotillard and Natalie Portman.
Unfortunately none of those leading ladies made it to Simons' show in Paris today. But Simons still had strong showing of celebs and tastemakers, including Mila Kunis, Eva Herzigova, Leelee Sobieski, Robert DeNiro, Diane Von Furstenberg, Rachel Zoe, Carine Roitfeld and even Kanye West (even though he's just a spectator, not a presenting designer, this Paris Fashion Week).
But our favorite appearance by far was Princess of Thailand Siriwanwaree Nareera. The royal, whose father is Crown Prince Maha Vajralongkorn of Thailand, is a regular at Paris Fashion Week and attended shows for Christian Dior, Chanel, Lanvin, Balmain and Hermes in past years. This season she made Christian Dior her first gig, sitting front row in a white lace frock with a partially sheer hem (so on-trend).
Considering she's the lone royal (or even royal sibling) to make it to any of the major Fashion Weeks this season, we're much appreciative. And she's even got on that ubiquitous royal staple: nude platform pumps.
