We spend lots of time focusing on what stars wear (and any wardrobe malfunctions they may have), but what about what they put on their faces? There's been a lot of celebrity news this week and although makeup may not seem all that important, plenty of women won't leave home without it.
In a survey, two-thirds of British women said that heading to the office bare-faced caused them more stress than public speaking, going on a first date or enduring a job interview. 91 percent of women surveyed would rather cancel a first date altogether than go without makeup on. And in the U.S., women spend around $7 billion on cosmetics every year.
And that doesn't even include hair. The AP recently reported that in 1950, about seven percent of women dyed their hair. Today? 95 percent or more.
With all that beauty-obsession (and our own love of makeup) in mind, we're taking a look at This Week In Beauty. From this week forward, we'll be showcasing the best, worst and most interesting styles of hair, makeup and nails that we came across this week. Take a look, get inspired and vote for your faves!
BEST: Julianne Moore
Julianne Moore<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/23/julianne-moore-emmy_n_1902000.html"> scored an Emmy</a> and our beauty approval at the Awards Ceremony on September 23. The red-headed stunner always turns heads on the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/24/julianne-moores-style-evo_n_784855.html#s191294&title=July_1995">red carpet</a> and Emmys night was no different. Her red lip looked gorgeous paired with her lemon yellow gown and the little touch of blush left her glowing.
WORST: Katy Perry
Singer Katy Perry attended the viewing of <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/zorianna-kit/katy-perry-part-of-me-mov_b_1651686.html">"Katy Perry: Part of Me</a>" on September 25 in Tokyo, Japan, with an unusually bland look. With uncolored hair, neutral toned makeup and a matte lipstick that looked very <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2012/04/11/dark-lips_n_1416103.html">'90s </a>(and not in a chic way), she had us wishing for some <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/01/nicki-minaj-katy-perry-pink-hair_n_1122664.html">cotton candy hair</a> or at least a pop of bright lipstick. Hopefully this firework hasn't fizzled out and she'll be back to her usual colorful ways soon.
BEST: Halle Berry
Actress Halle Berry attended the "Cybergeddon" premiere on September 24 with that <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/23/halle-berry-short-hair_n_1540809.html#slide=more228391">iconic pixie do</a> we all love paired with subtle makeup. Halle knows that simple is always best and stuck with a light pink lipstick, some mascara and barely-there foundation that made her skin look flawless. If only her <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/22/halle-berry-gabriel-aubry-custody-battle-continues_n_1821880.html">divorce</a> could've been that clean.
WORST: Lady Gaga
Singer Lady Gaga was seen arriving at her hotel on September 21 in Paris, France with the strange <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2012/08/31/rihanna-miley-cyrus-undercut-hair_n_1838342.html">undercut</a> she got to <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/12/lady-gaga-hair-terry-richardson-photos-pictures-twitter_n_1876685.html?utm_hp_ref=style">mourn the loss of photographer Terry Richardson's mom</a>. Making matters worse, she piled her remaining hair into a droopy bun. Perhaps she really wanted to show off that <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2012/09/14/lady-gaga-tattoo-perfume-launch_n_1884018.html#slide=1522370">new tattoo</a>? Her thick fake lashes and too much blush made this look even more over-the-top for us.
BEST: Rebel Wilson
Actress Rebel Wilson attended the "Pitch Perfect" Los Angeles premiere on September 24 looking less like a funny girl sidekick and more like a leading lady. The Aussie star, who won our hearts in "Bridesmaids," stepped up her makeup game with commercial worthy lashes and a simple yet pretty up do.
WORST: Chloe Sevigny
Chloe Sevigny, always the<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2011/11/17/chloe-sevigny-style_n_1100084.html"> style tastemaker</a>, shocked us with her makeup at the HBO Emmys after party on September 23. Her odd smudged violet eye shadow reminded us a little too much of '80s prom photos. And even though the coral-red lipstick really suited the actress, we thought it was a bit much when paired with the heave eye makeup. We know you're a quirky girl, Chloe, but we love your more natural looks.
BEST: Keke Palmer
Actress Keke Palmer has grown so much since we first saw her in "Akeelah and the Bee." The 19-year-old glowed at Teen Vogue's 10th Anniversary Young Hollywood party on September 27. Her girly pink lip, smokey eyes and Rapunzel-like locks were the perfect mash-up of lady-like teen rebellion.
WORST: Ashley Rickards
Ashley Rickards' newly dyed blonde locks at Teen Vogue's 10th Anniversary party were more <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/21/awkward-season-2-ashley-rickards_n_1616056.html">"awkward" </a>than anything that we've seen on her MTV series. The normally dark-haired actress pulled her hair into a ponytail and donned a black bow headband for the occasion, but we have to say we miss her dark hair and fresh-faced makeup.
BEST: Padma Lakshmi
"Top Chef" celeb Padma Lakshmi followed Halle Berry's example and opted for a barely-there makeup look at the HBO Emmys after party. The <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/14/padma-lasksmi-talks-top-chef-body-weight_n_849336.html">gorgeous star</a> applied just a simple tinted rosy lip color and light powder blue eyeshadow, and the look worked wonders for her. Padma was definitely working it!
WORST: Jessica Lowndes
Actress Jessica Lowndes arrived at Teen Vogue's 10th Anniversary Young Hollywood party on September 27 looking like the figure skater version of <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/24/this-week-in-beauty_n_1619341.html#slide=1128123">Kristen Stewart</a> -- yikes! The flat beehive and crazy blue eye makeup left us scratching our heads. Maybe next time hold off on the blue mascara, Jessica.
