Woman Tries To Set Firefighters On Fire: Cops

It's always a bad day at work when you get fired.

Fatima Darby, 24, is accused of attempting to set two firefighters ablaze when they responded to a fire at her home Syracuse, N.Y., 949 WINZ reports.

Police in Syracuse, N.Y. say that firefighters were responding to a fire at Darby's home on Sunday afternoon, 940 WINZ reports. After they forced their way into the apartment, the 24-year-old woman allegedly threw a pot of flaming grease at the first two firefighters to make it in the door, but missed.

The pot of grease was what caused the fire in the first place, investigators believe, when it ignited Darby's kitchen curtains. After she threw the grease, it hit the wall and started another small fire, according to The Post-Standard.

Darby then allegedly punched a fireman.

After the fires were extinguished, Darby's 1-year-old son was taken into police custody and brought to a hospital for observation.

Neither the boy nor the firefighters sustained any injuries. Darby suffered burns on her hands, and was treated at a local hospital where she also received a mental evaluation, according to 9 WSYR.

She is facing charges of arson, reckless endangerment, obstructing government administration, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.
