Mitt Romney Talking Points Ahead Of Debate Focus On 'Choice' Election

Officials from Mitt Romney's campaign circulated talking points to their allies and surrogates late Sunday, later obtained by CNN. The message points offer a preview of the campaign's focus leading into the first presidential debate on Wednesday in Denver, Colo.

The message points are concentrated on the economy but also emphasize the policy choice before voters this election, rather than just serving as a referendum on President Barack Obama's first term. It's a shift the campaign has recently acknowledged in the wake of a troubling few weeks for Romney, in which the GOP nominee has been slipping in the polls.

Surrogate Message Points: The Big Choice

Top-Line Message:

  • This election is a choice between two very different visions for our nation's future -- and that choice will be on full display at the debate this Wednesday.

  • Barack Obama doesn't have a record to run on or a plan for the future.

  • Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are offering exactly what our nation needs -- real reforms for a real recovery.

  • Whether we're talking about jobs, health care, debt, taxes, or foreign policy, the choice this election is clear.

  • Under President Obama, we will have four more years of the last four years, with a stagnant economy that fosters government dependency and a foreign policy that makes the world less safe.
