Jackie Collins Goes From '60s Pinup To Suited Up Novelist (PHOTOS)

It's hard to separate Jackie Collins from the racy novels that shot her to fame in the '70s. Since then, the English novelist has become a star of the risqué literary genre, writing 29 best-sellers. But Ms. Collins doesn't just have an impressive roster of novels to her name -- she actually began her career as an actress.

After being expelled from school in London, 15-year-old Collins headed for Hollywood where she had a "brief but fabulous affair" with 29-year-old Marlon Brando. Unlike her older sister Joan Collins, Jackie opted to choose brains over beauty. After making a few acting appearances, she launched a writing career in the late '60s. Unsurprisingly, her minidresses were traded in for blazers during the transition.

Ms. Collins burst onto the literary scene with a bang: her first novel The World Is Full Of Married Men was considered sexually illicit, causing quite the scandal when it was published in 1968. The mother-of-three went on to be a fixture on the New York Times "Best-Seller List" and even turned a few novels into films and television miniseries.

Like the romantic subject matter of her novels, her fashion sense hasn't changed much throughout the years either. The writer has generally stuck to monochromatic power suits since the '80s -- hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Fortunately, it looks like Collins doesn't plan to stop sticking to her strengths anytime soon. The blazer-clad author just released her 29th novel The Power Trip, so we're sure there's plenty more in store for Ms. Collins.
