Chris Christie: Debate Was A 'Wipeout'

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is tickled pink.

After predicting earlier that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's first debate performance would turn the race "upside down," Christie appeared on the Fox Business Network to issue his reaction.

His read?

The debate was a 'wipeout.'

Christie accepted praise for his prescient prediction -- "You bet your butt I did!" -- and said he knew Romney would do well because he'd witnessed him do it before.

"Every time this guy has had his back to the wall he comes up with a big performance in the debates," Christie said, citing Romney's primary debates against GOP presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry. "All I will say is what I believe. I don’t have any crystal ball.”

According to Christie, the campaign is now reset.

"This is far from over," he said. "What I said on Sunday was Mitt Romney will give a performance on Wednesday that will make everybody wake up on Thursday morning and say ‘OK, there’s 33 days left. There’s a new start to the campaign.’ And I think that’s exactly what’s happening."

He also wondered whether anyone in Obama's campaign would tell the president how bad of a performance it was. "I knew it was not going to be a good night for the president when he couldn't even get his happy anniversary out," he said. "He fumbled over that line."
