President Obama will sit down with ABC News' Diane Sawyer next week in his first national interview following Wednesday night's debate. Politico was first to report the news.
Portions of the interview will air on Wednesday, October 10 on "ABC World News," the night before the vice presidential debate. ABC will air the full interview later this month during the network's series on both candidates titled, "Portrait of a President."
The interview comes on the heels of Obama's poor debate performance and the release of the September jobs report, which brought the unemployment rate down to 7.8 percent, the lowest since his first month in office.
As The Huffington Post's Michael Calderone previously reported, Obama has employed a cautious media strategy throughout the 2012 election cycle. He has not appeared on any of the Sunday public affair programs since Sept. 2009, and has not sat down with the cable news outlets yet this year.
According to Politico, the interview was scheduled before the debate took place. Obama previously sat down with Sawyer just 48 hours after the 2012 State of the Union in January.
Obama told the ABC News anchor that he wants a second term "badly," and admitted to making "a mistake, you know, every hour, every day."
