Rodney Osborne, Extreme Couponer, Donates Sale Items To Charities (VIDEO)

On August 23, penny-wise saver, Rodney Osborne, donated nearly $1,000 worth of products to charity. The twist -- he spent only $37 on the entire load!

A resident of Sunbury, Ohio, Osborne donates huge loads of items to numerous local charities, using store sales and coupons to purchase goods for a fraction of their regular price, according to the Delaware News.

"A small donation can help a lot of people," Osborne told the Delaware News. "I am hoping to kill two birds with one stone: Donate to charity and teach those in need how to get more bang for their buck."

Osborne began extreme couponing when both his wife and he lost their jobs during the recession, reports NBC. Now that they have recovered financially, he is using his acquired skills to help charity.

His trick is to to collect 10 or more Sunday newspapers, which are usually loaded with coupons. Then, he only shops on days when stores are having sales or double coupon days.

"I take the $50 I was going to donate anyways and multiply it," he told Delaware News. "Instead of helping one family, I'm helping multiple families."

Osborne's ways are so good he was able to buy 50 boxes of Kellogg's cereal for 9 cents a box and 176 school supplies for only $5.

His most recent donation, which included everything from pasta to razors, would have cost a whopping $975.06 at full price. Osborne got it for $37.17.

NBC reports that one of the charities Osborne donates to most often is Common Ground, a store that lets anyone in need shop for free. It's a place Osborne had to visit himself when his family was in financial difficulty. Now he gets to pay forward the generosity he once received.

"This is a great way to help those around you in need and it's a great way to build our community," he said. "We didn't always receive help when we had a need, but I want to make sure others receive help."
