Former Republican Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will be in Iowa on Monday night, where he'll be delivering the keynote address to the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce. But unless you're planning to be there in person, you won't be able to hear what he has to say.
According to Radio Iowa Director O. Kay Henderson, the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce has informed media outlets planning to cover Bush's speech that they will not be allowed to record his remarks. From the Chamber's message, which said the restrictions come from the agency representing Bush:
We remain most appreciative of your interest in this evening's speaker. As you may recall, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush's keynote address is entitled "America’s Promise in Uncertain Times." He is expected to speak for approximately 40 minutes and he will then take questions from the audience.
Governor Bush will not be doing any interviews this evening. While still photographs are permitted throughout his presentation, no audio recordings whatsoever are permitted and B-roll video (no audio) is permitted for the first three (3) minutes of his presentation.
…Please understand that these are stipulations and obligations from the speaker's agency representing the Governor, and the Chamber is contractually required to adhere to them.
While reporters will still presumably be allowed to take notes, getting exact quotes from 40 minutes of a speech will require some fast writing.
The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce often attracts big-name political speakers for its annual dinner, with former Sen. Fred Thompson, ABC News host George Stephanopoulos and pundits Mary Matalin and James Carville all appearing in the past. The dinner typically draws up to 1,500 people.
Bush's speech will focus on "how to address the key challenges facing America today."
