'Mythbusters' Premiere: Could Jack And Rose Have Shared The Board At The End Of 'Titanic'? (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

The "Mythbusters" soared into their new season ready to debunk some of the most important questions mankind has ever faced. Questions like whether or not Rose could have scooched over and made some room for Jack on that wooden board at the end of "Titanic." Did her love have to die?

The team actually confirmed that, while it was visually frustrating for fans, Jack and Rose together on that board would have caused it to sink. So Jack's sacrifice was perhaps necessary in order to save her life. If only one of them had been more clever, like the "Mythbusters" team.

They came up with a way that both could have survived. If they'd tied Rose's life vest under the board, they could have both floated on it until they were rescued. Alas, it wasn't to be. It wasn't written that way, according to James Cameron.

“I think you guys are missing the point here," Cameron said. "The script says Jack dies. He has to die. So maybe we screwed up and the board should have been a tiny bit smaller, but the dude’s going down." So that's that.

The new season of "Mythbusters" continues on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Discovery.
