America's Cup. Fleet Week. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. An (embarrassing) start to the Giants playoffs. An (epic) Niners win.

Suffice to say, it was busy in San Francisco this weekend. Adding Burning Man Decompression, the Castro Street Fair, the Italian Heritage Parade and the beginning of Litquake to the mix equaled a cool one-million visitors descending on our fair city to jump into the madness. And yet the crowd-control went off mostly without a hitch. Sure, many of the sidewalks lined shoulder to shoulder, public transit passengers had to cram themselves into BART and Muni cars and a handful of angry anarchists staged a disruptive protest downtown on Saturday afternoon, but the traffic jams and general conflict were kept to a minimum.

"We had large crowds all day, but people were patient and it seemed like everyone enjoyed themselves," police Officer Gordon Shyy said in a statement. "We didn't have any major issues."
