Arnold Schwarzenegger 'Total Recall' Book Tour: Star Tells Jay Leno He Still 'Loves' Maria Shriver

Jay Leno put Arnold Schwarzenegger in the hot seat Monday when the former governor stopped by "The Tonight Show" to promote his new book, "Total Recall."

"Suppose it had been the other way around," Leno said. "Suppose you had found out that a child was not yours. How would you have reacted?"

"Exactly the same as she has reacted. I think it’s human nature. You would get angry, you would be disappointed. All of those things," Schwarzenegger responded. "Look, I know the pain that I have inflicted on her and I also know that she did not deserve that. And that she was always an extraordinary wife, and an unbelievable mother, and a great partner and adviser and everything like this."

Schwarzenegger also revealed that he is still "very much in love" with Shriver, whom he separated from in May 2011 -- a week before revelations of his love child surfaced.

"I always will love her," he said.

So will the pair get back together? In a recent interview, Schwarzenegger told Fox News' Sean Hannity, "I'm the forever optimist. So I do see that Maria and I get together eventually."

Further fueling reconciliation rumors, Shriver was photographed in Brentwood, Calif. on Saturday wearing what looked to be her wedding ring. However, according to E!, the ring actually belonged to her mother Eunice, who died in August 2009.

Shriver filed for divorce in July 2011, on the heels of Schwarzenegger's public admission that he had fathered an illegitimate child with former household staffer Mildred Baena. The estranged couple has four children together -- Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher.
