Pizza Hut Offers Free Pizza For Life In Exchange For Silly Question At Presidential Debate

Pizza Hut Offers Huge Reward For Silly Question At Debate

If you're one of the lucky few people to get a spot in the audience at the next presidential debate on October 16 at Hofstra University in central Long Island, you have a rare opportunity to take an active role in the future of American democracy. Because this second debate is town hall-style, select audience members, along with citizens communicating via webcasts, are allowed to ask the candidates questions directly. It's your chance to grill Romney on the specifics of his health care plan, or ask Obama to take a definitive stance on amnesty for undocumented immigrants! Or, if you're less interested in politics than you are in greasy pizza, it's your chance to get a free pizza every week for the next 30 years.

That's the reward that Pizza Hut, the country's biggest pizza chain, is offering to any debate participants who ask the candidates whether they prefer sausage or pepperoni on their pizza. (According to the video embedded above promoting the contest, "pepperoni or sausage?" is also an acceptable version of the question.)

All the questions are pre-screened, so it's unlikely anyone would get approval for the question. But it's always possible that a rogue agent could go off-script in the pursuit of an annual $520 gift card for the Yum Brands-owned chain.

UPDATE 10/12: After getting some harsh backlash for this PR stunt, Pizza Hut has decided to call off its dare. Now, anyone who wants to win free Pizza Hut for life can enter for a chance to win an online sweepstakes by answering the "pepperoni or sausage?" question on the Pizza Hut website.
