Kirk Cameron is defending himself once again following the backlash he experienced following a series of controversial remarks he made about homosexuality on Piers Morgan's CNN program.
"Sometimes, when a Christian is asked a question and has a conviction about not backing down and wussing out...it can get you into some hot water," Cameron told a crowd at Virginia's Liberty University, Right Wing Watch is reporting. "It seems I hit the side of a hornet's nest when I answered a question."
Cameron went on to note that "blasphemy laws are still alive and well in America,” and that critics tried to drag him "out into the public square and crucify” him after he had "blasphemed the God of Political Correctness."
The 41-year-old "Growing Pains" actor has scarcely been out of the headlines since March, when he declared that homosexuality was "unnatural" and "ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization" during his appearance on Morgan's show.
Last month, he blamed the media furor over his remarks on the "liberal press," expressing solidarity with Missouri Congressman Todd Akin and adding, "If Piers Morgan were truly concerned about the homosexual community, concerned with people being hurt, he could have eliminated that section, like he did many other parts of our conversation."
