Harvard IncestFest Name Should Be Changed, Claims Crimson Editorial

Kirkland House, a Harvard dorm, apparently hosts a party called "IncestFest" named thusly because it encourages attachments between the occupants of said dorm. Now, a Crimson editorial is taking issue with the use of the word "incest" in that particular context.

Samantha Berstler, an English concentrator and Kirkland House resident, implores students to "talk about incest for a minute" because she finds the party's name " not sexy or cute or clever ...[but] dangerous."

The Crimson has more:

I am writing this because incest is notoriously invisible and leaves its victims burdened with shame and humiliation for the rest of their lives. This invisibility and this shame are directly enforced by the myths of incest as "sexy" and "misunderstood"--myths propagated by using "incest" as slang for "sex with someone I'm living with" and by dances that institutionalize this meaning.

Harvard isn't the only college that has seen their share of criticism for an offensively named party Recently, a Pimps and Hos party in the UK received criticism from women's groups.
