'Law & Order: SVU' Tackles 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' (VIDEO)

The book at the center of the case on "Law & Order: SVU" may not have been E.L. James' 50 Shades of Grey, but the episode was clearly inspired by it. The story followed the young author of a similar book on a promotional tour. After appearing on a talk show, she was sexually assaulted by the show's host.

However, she initiated contact with him, and was playing a submissive role. He just took it further than she wanted. A second assault was far more brazen, as he attacked and raped her in an elevator. What became problematic when charging him was that both of these encounters were detailed in her book and were supposed fantasies of hers.

In the courtroom, however, it finally came out that this young woman hadn't written the book at all. Instead, one of her college professors did. They worked out a deal where the student would get the credit for the book and a portion of the profits, to protect the reputation of the professor -- and because an innocent young woman writing such sordid tales made for a more compelling behind-the-book story.

In the end, the team was able to get their man, as the television host was convicted of rape.
