"Beauty and the Beast," The CW's new Thursday night series, held on to a good portion of "The Vampire Diaries" audience.

About 3.2 million people watched the premiere of "Beauty and the Beast" at 9 p.m. after 3.5 million tuned in for "The Vampire Diaries" at 8 p.m. In the 18-49 demographic, the Kristin Kreuk/Jay Ryan series had a 1.3 rating, while "The Vampire Diaries" had a 1.6. However, those figures may change slightly because some local CW markets were pre-empted by the NFL.

Most other networks only broadcasted original programming between 8-9 p.m. before the vice presidential debate. On NBC, "30 Rock" was up compared to last week's premiere. The veteran comedy had 3.8 million viewers and a 1.4 rating in the demo. At 8:30 p.m., "Up All Night" had 3.5 million viewers and a 1.2 rating.

ABC aired "Last Resort's" third episode, which brought in 6.9 million viewers and a 1.6 rating.

On CBS, "The Big Bang Theory" had 13.8 million viewers and a 4.2 rating and "Two and a Half Men" at 8:30 p.m. had 11.2 million viewers and a 3.2 rating.

Fox aired "The X Factor" at 8 p.m. The singing competition had 8.3 million viewers and a 2.9 rating in the demographic.
