Before Christina Applegate was supermom and Maya Rudolph's righthand woman on NBC's "Up All Night"; before she was the critically acclaimed titular "Samantha Who?"; before she won an Emmy for portraying one of Rachel Green's sisters on "Friends"; before she was a fashion prodigy in the teen cult classic "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead"; and before she was Kelly Bundy, the world's most badass daughter on "Married ... With Children," the longtime actress had a few guest stints on some beloved '80s sitcoms.
Below, in honor of her "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig (Sat., Oct. 13 at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC), check out a young Applegate in three early roles: as a slumber partygoer (with a very interesting lamp shade-inspired hairstyle) on "Charles in Charge," as Jennifer's keyboardist on an episode of "Family Ties" and as an institutionalized teen seducing Johnny Depp on "21 Jump Street."
Before live-in-babysitter Charles worked for the Powells -- Walter, Ellen, Jamie, Sarah and Adam -- he worked for the Pembroke family for a season on CBS, including pre-teen Lila. At 14, Applegate played Stacy, one of Lila's friends in two episodes of the late '80s sitcom.
In a 1987 episode of "Family Ties," Jennifer and her band, The Permanent Waves, impressed Alex so much that he decided to manage them and help them make some money. Applegate -- double suicide rolls and long white gloves included -- played keyboardist Kitten.
Shortly after "Family Ties," Applegate put her musical talents aside for an episode of Fox's "21 Jump Street," the same show that made Johnny Depp a star. In her single-episode stint, a very blonde Applegate played Tina, a patient at an adolescent abuse treatment center where Hanson (Depp) was undercover. Tina did not hesitate to make her move on Hanson while rocking a midriff-baring Lou Reed t-shirt ...
