Bill Maher Slams Focus On The Family & Being Wrong With No Penalty (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

Bill Maher ended Friday's episode of "Real Time" with a rant echoing a common theme throughout this election season: Why are so many high-profile figures and groups allowed to distort the truth or outright lie with little to no punishment?

He began by laying into Focus on the Family, which he calls a "anti-gay lobbying group disguised as a church" -- in other words, the Westboro Baptist Church "crossed with Bain Capital." Specifically, he touted their 2008 list of predictions for the future under an Obama presidency, none of which actually came to fruition when Obama was elected.

The famously atheist Maher saw their scare tactics as a symptom of a larger issue: "If you're doing God's work, and God is perfect, how come you're always wrong?"

"Is there no penalty anymore for just being wrong?" Maher asked later in the segment. In an election when fact checking has suddenly come back into style, perhaps that penalty will come sooner rather than later.
