"The story with anorexic girls -- nobody works with anorexic girls. That has nothing to do with fashion. People who have that, they have problem with family and things like this. There are less than 1 percent of anorexic girls, but there are over -- in France, I don’t know about England -- over 30 percent of girls who are big, big, overweight."
When asked if he feels responsible for the health of the models he works with, the creative director replies, "I can tell you all kinds of moral tales, but fashion and reality are vaguely different."
What do you think of Karl Lagerfeld's comments about underweight models in the fashion industry? Do you think there's a problem?

Karl On Japanese People
Karl opened up to <a href="http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/designer-luxury/chanels-tokyo-turn-5815470?module=today" target="_hplink"><em>Women's Wear Daily</em></a> about Tokyo Fashion Week: "It's changed a lot but it's changed for the better I think. I noticed that people became bigger than before because now they eat more cake and sweets and things like this that they didn't do in the past. There's a real change in the look of the Japanese people. Normally, before, they were all tiny. It's the kind of beauty you get from junk food."

Karl On Michelle Obama
Karl told <a href="http://www.style.com/stylefile/2011/09/karl-lagerfeld-opens-up/" target="_hplink">Style.com</a> he's very fond of Michelle Obama:
"I'm a big fan of Mrs. Obama - and her face, I think, is magical. He would not be there without her. Mrs. Obama is not a fashion statement, but she has other things to do. My favorite thing about Mrs Obama was when she was asked if her skirt was not too tight and she answered 'Why you don't like my big black ass?' I want [Barack] Obama to win because there is nothing better anyway, and especially because of her."
FYI: Kristina Schake, Director of Communications to First Lady Michelle Obama released a statement regarding Lagerfeld's comment saying, "Mrs. Obama never made that statement."

Karl On Dating In Russia
In his infamous interview with <a href="http://www.metro.us/newyork/life/article/1089980--karl-lagerfeld-on-lana-del-rey-the-greek-crisis-and-m-i-a-s-middle-finger" target="_hplink"><em>Metro</em></a>, Karl put his foot in his mouth when talking about Russian men: "If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell's boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men."

If you ever wondered what <a href="http://www.metro.us/newyork/life/article/1089980--karl-lagerfeld-on-lana-del-rey-the-greek-crisis-and-m-i-a-s-middle-finger" target="_hplink">Karl thought about the Greek financial crisis: </a>"Greece needs to work on a cleaner image. It's a big problem, as [Greeks] have this reputation of being so corrupt. You can't be sure the money will go where it's supposed to go. They need to build trust, and that takes time too. Nobody wants Greece to disappear, but they have really disgusting habits - Italy as well."

Karl On Dominique Strauss-Kahn
Karl thinks politics<a href="http://www.style.com/stylefile/2011/09/karl-lagerfeld-opens-up/" target="_hplink"> is all about survival: </a>"I love Dominique Strauss-Kahn. I love his wife. They are great people and when they came back to Paris I sent them flowers. But you know, for people in politics, it's very embarrassing. On the left they had hoped he wouldn't come back, because I think other people want his job. And on the other side...but even in America, Clinton survived his blow job."

I just boycotted any- and everything to do with this designer. He lives in his own (alternate) reality based on bottom line, as always, money. I suspect that he cannot design worth beans for anyone except the anorexic women who are desperate to keep their 'glamorous' jobs and those misguided girls who believe the lies. Healthy is beautiful; size has little to do with health except on either extreme and he has obviously selected the low extreme and spent an entire career fostering that sick opinion.

Lol that guy sure is something, hell yeah those models are too skinny! Why do you need skin covered skeletons to model clothes on a runway anyway? Thin & petite women is definitely my cup of tea, but those runway girls look creepy & are WAY to boney.... How bout' not vomitting after a meal for a change?!

IMHO, Gabrielle Chanel has been SPINNING in her grave for quite some time now because Karl Lagerfeld is at the helm of Chanel.
The great Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel was a woman who designed hats, clothes, and created perfume for fashion forward, sophisticated WOMEN -- not little girls. Those women -- even her models -- were svelte and healthy. They were not skinny and easily mistaken for famine victims.
The Chanel empire should do themselves a favor and find a new head visionary. A young designer with an obvious love of women's curves and dressing them would be ideal. Considering Narciso Rodriguez or Jason Wu to renew the House of Chanel while honoring the spirit and raison d'etre of its founder would be an excellent start.
Otherwise, serious fashionistas, I believe it is time to boycott Chanel as long as the company remains under the creative control of Lagerfeld -- someone with such obvious contempt for women.

Gay guys are so talented. Why do they want to work with underage girls as the article describes, or ultrathin women??? It's really not good and perpetuates their reputation as people that have a proclivity to want to work with women that have bodies that resemble little boys.
Cinemanouveaux: Gay guys are so talented. Why do they want to
Personally I don't think most of the models I see in magazines or on TV are too thin. There are a few every now and again but mostly I see tall statuesque women.

Where are a sane prosecutor and judge when you need them. This man should be locked up in jail. He's a dangerous criminal, he hates women so much that he tortures them.

I think that basketball players are too tall. Anyone over 6'3" is promoting an unrealistically tall lifestyle that the rest of us can't possibly compete with. They shouldn't be receiving million dollar contracts just because of their superior genes and natural talent. Where's the regulation? Maybe if Obama wasn't in the pocket of big basketball...
