Gary Wilson, Homeless Traveler, Saves Newborn's Life After Mother, Keaton Mason, Goes Into Labor At Oklahoma Truck Stop (VIDEO)

Keaton Mason was giving birth in an unlikely situation: the passenger seat of a white Honda, in a truck stop just off I-40 in Oklahoma City.

Mason and her fiancé had originally set course for the hospital, reports UPI, but had no time to spare as she went into labor four weeks before her due date.

Compounding an already stressful situation, Mason's daughter took a tricky path into this world. The baby's umbilical cord had wrapped itself around her neck during birth, cutting off oxygen.

"The lady was screaming, 'My baby, my baby's blue.. she's not breathing,'" Jennifer Morris, a bystander, told News9.

Then an unlikely savior stepped in to help -- a homeless man who introduced himself as Gary Wilson.

Wilson freed the baby's neck from the umbilical cord, tied it off, and rubbed the infant's back until she began breathing on her own. "He did everything perfectly right," reflected Sandra Lesperance, a paramedic who responded to the scene.

The man showed amazing calm while talking to the 911 dispatcher about how best to cut the umbilical chord, reports CBS.

Tim Ward, another responding paramedic, told NewsOn6 that Wilson was holding a sign that said 'Memphis' when they arrived, indicating the next destination he was trying to get to.

Wilson told truck stop employees he was originally from Montana, traveling to Jacksonville, Florida.

Wilson accepted a hot meal and a place to stay for the night from truck stop workers, then disappeared the next morning. And as for the newborn, doctors say little Tatum Brown is a healthy 4 pounds, 11 ounces.
