'Moving the Still' Exhibition From Tumblr and Paddle8 Celebrates 25 Years Of GIFs

The GIF That Keeps On Giving

First was the Instagram art show, then came the cat video festival... Now the time has come for the GIF to be inaugurated into the art world elite.

In honor of the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)'s 25th anniversary ,Tumblr and Paddle8 have collaborated on "Moving the Still," an open-call exhibition made of user-submitted GIFs from around the world. If you still think GIFs aren't worth your time, take a look at the panel of judges: Michael Stipe, the Rodarte sisters, Ryan Trecartin, Vinoodh Matadin & Inez van Lamsweerd, and James Frey, among others. The winning GIFs will be featured in an exhibition at Art Basel Miami Beach this December.

The competition goes live today on Tumblr and is accepting submissions until November 7th. Winners will be announced November 26, 2012, so get moving!
