Grits Recipes: Get Creative With It (PHOTOS)

Depending on what part of the country you're from, grits may or may not have been a staple at your breakfast table. If you were lucky, they were. If not, it's okay, you've got some time to make up for all the servings you've missed.

Not only are grits delicious, but they've also been used to free wrongly-accused men of murder. (Okay, that may have been a fictional scenario from "My Cousin Vinny," but it could happen.) Grits recipes are often just served next to eggs, but they get interesting when you know what to add to them. Check it out.

Good grits have to be cooked slow with lots of cream, a la creamy Charleston stone ground grits. Mmmmmm. I'm about to go have some for lunch actually.

Instant or quick cooking grits are awful, especially when made with water. Avoid those! Good grits, like most Southern food, aren't exactly health food.

Regular, plain grits cooked slow and for a long time with a dab of butter on top served with some soft scrambed eggs and some pan seared scollops on the side...Oh Yea! Try it...I bet you'll like it.

Nooooooooooo. Grits are $#!+. Hated as kid, hate it now. You couldn't pay me to eat grits, no matter what you put in it.

I felt that way until I tried slow cooked creamy grits. YUM. The instant or quick cooking stuff is awful! Give it a try if you haven't yet. If so, well, we all have our own personal tastes :)

You have to be careful when buying grits. Most corn in the US is GMO frankenfood so you have to choose organic grits and polenta to avoid health problems.

You should say "possible" or "potential" health problems. I don't want GMO food either, but let's be honest at least. I can't find organic grits here, but then again I haven't check with Whole Foods.
