Joe Paterno Billboards, From PS4truth, Pop Up In Pennsylvania Supporting Late Coach

Whether drivers like it or not, some roads in Pennsylvania are still Joe Paterno territory. A group called PS4truth has put up electronic billboards supporting the late, disgraced Penn State coach, reports the blog Onward State.

One in the rotation of six messages reads: "WHEN? will Penn State honor Joe Paterno's lifetime of service to the University?" Others criticize the school's trustees for not resigning, the NCAA for removing 111 of Paterno's victories, and the media for using his name to make money.

Jim Diebold, a member of PS4truth, told the Patriot-News he was disturbed by the "horrible rush to judgment" implicating Paterno as an enabler in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

The billboards can be spotted along Route 581 near Lemoyne, Pa., on Interstate 83 in Harrisburg and on Route 15 just north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to the newspaper.

AdWeek went on the offensive in its appraisal of the campaign. "PS4truth can argue semantics all they want," the trade publication wrote, "but they don't care about any of those kids who got molested, or their families, or the culture of abuse and secrecy that empowered Jerry Sandusky's 13-year streak of rampant chicken hawking."

After Sandusky was indicted in November, Paterno was fired. He died in January, before a report by ex-FBI Director Louis Freeh concluded that Penn State officials, including Paterno, engaged in a coverup of Sandusky's crimes. One of the billboard messages asks why Freeh never interviewed Paterno.

Sandusky, a longtime Penn State assistant, was essentially sentenced to life in prison this month.

PS4truth is actually making its billboard play late in the game, according to Onward State. A group called Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship (PS4RS) was behind other pro-Paterno billboards posted around State College last month.
