'Speed Freak Killers' Story Presented On 'Very Bad Men,' As One Murderer Helps Authorities Find Bodies (VIDEO)

The "Speed Freak Killers" were spotlighted on the latest installment of "Very Bad Men." Childhood friends Loren Herzog and Wesley Shermantine are believed to have gone on a drug-fueled killing spree during the 1980s and '90s, until their capture in 1999.

Earlier this year, Shermantine agreed to help authorities find where some of the bodes were buried. To this point, both men had been claiming the other was the mastermind behind their crime spree. Upon hearing about Shermantine agreeing to help authorities, Herzog committed suicide in the trailer cell he was being kept in.

True to his word, Shermantine helped police find the bodies of young women who'd gone missing during their killing spree. Cyndi Vanderheiden was one of their victims, and her father spoke of the moment when her body was recovered. "I couldn’t believe it. I went into the house and I ... said, ‘We’ve got her back,'" he said. "There was a relief, but she’s still gone. There’s no more searching for her, and the hope is all gone."

Sacramento's CBS affiliate reported that Shermantine was transported from death row in August 2012 to help recover more bodies that he's said are out there.
