"Paranormal Activity 4" has only been in theaters since last Friday, but that hasn't stopped Paramount from moving ahead with the next chapter in the annual horror franchise. Deadline.com's Nikki Finke reports that the studio and producers Jason Blum and Oren Pell are developing "Paranormal Activity 5" for release in October of 2013.

The Deadline piece also relays word of a "Paranormal Activity" spinoff, but that film was first reported by THR back in April of this year. As THR noted six months ago, the spinoff -- which Blum and Pell would produce with Christopher Landon, the writer on the second, third and fourth "Paranormal Activity" films -- will attempt to take advantage of the franchise's large Latino fan base both in the U.S. and abroad. It's expected in theaters early next year.

While development of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise is showing no signs of slowing down, ticket sales have unfortunately ebbed: "Paranormal Activity 4" opened at the top of the box office over the weekend, but with just $30 million. By contrast, "Paranormal Activity 3" earned $52.5 million on this weekend 2011. Overseas, however, "Paranormal Activity 4" earned $26.5 million, the largest international debut in the franchise's history.
