Jackie Kennedy Onassis '70s Style: How To Get Her All-Black Look (PHOTO)

How To Dress Like A First Lady

There had never been a first lady so obsessively followed for her fashion prior to Jackie Kennedy Onassis. And for good reason, she was a woman who loved to dress. Her shopping habits even exceeded her husband John F. Kennedy's presidential salary. For a time she was restricted to buying only more affordable American brands, but as a die-hard fashionista she eventually went back to purchasing her favorite European designers like Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga. Yet, her interest in fashion never came across as frivolous instead she always exuded coolness (something to do with her icy wit and intelligence perhaps?).

During the 1960s, Jackie's preferred A-line silhouettes, Chanel suit, and pillbox hats were constantly imitated by the public who found her sophisticated style approachable (like another fashion-forward FLOTUS). When this photo was taken on a trip to Ireland in 1970, Jackie's style had become even more laid-back. Dressed in all black with her signature large black sunnies, she has the understated classic appeal that women are still copying today. Would you try this first lady's look?
