"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" could be the biggest "Twilight" film ever. That's the word from Deadline.com's Nikki Finke, who reports that early tracking for the last installment in the "Twilight" franchise could open with a higher total than even "New Moon"; the second film in the "Twilight" series, released in 2009, grossed $142.8 million on its opening weekend.

The final book in Stephenie Meyer's beloved vampire romance, "Breaking Dawn" was split into two films to maximize profit potential and tell the story in a more robust fashion. "Part 1" was released in November of 2011 and grossed $138 million on its opening weekend. At the time, that made "Breaking Dawn Part 1" the sixth biggest opener of all time. However, when "Marvel's The Avengers" took the top position in May, and "The Dark Knight Rises" charted in July, "Breaking Dawn" dropped to eighth.

All told, the "Twilight" franchise has been a massive success for Summit Entertainment. The four films have earned over $1 billion in domestic dollars and more than $1.4 billion overseas. It's no wonder that rumors have surfaced in recent weeks that the studio wants to either do a spinoff of the film or a complete series reboot.
