With her McKinley High days behind her, college isn't the only new experience Santana (Naya Rivera) is having in Louisville, Kentucky on this season of "Glee."

Rivera opened up to THR about how a new love interest will help her character grow on Season 4.

Rivera said Santana has an "energy exchange" with one of her new classmates and hinted that she would be moving on from Brittany (Heather Morris), her high school girlfriend.

"That's an important part of her story that needs to be explored," she said. "But long-term? My fingers are crossed for [Brittany and Santana.]"

Santana isn't the only "Glee" character facing big changes this season. Rachel (Lea Michele) is dealing with her breakup with Finn (Cory Monteith) and her tough-as-nails new teacher, played by Kate Hudson.

"I think that Rachel definitely works at her best when she has to fight against something," Michele told HuffPost TV of her new challenges. "Or when she sort of has the odds stacked against her.

"Glee" airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
