Dante Cano, 11-Year-Old Boy, Convinces NFL To Use Pink Penalty Flags (VIDEO)

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the NFL has turned pink for the last four weekends. Everything from pink hand towels to pink game balls and pink ribbons have been sported on the field.

Now the NFL referees will also be part of the pink-wash to honor the wishes of an 11-year-old boy.

The NFL announced Wednesday that officials would be using pink penalty flags for Sunday's game between the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins after Dante Cano wrote to Commissioner Roger Goodell with the suggestion.

According to NFL Communications, the letter read:

Dear Roger Goodell, My name is Dante Cano. I am from Marlboro, New Jersey and I am 11 years old. I wanted to know if you could use my idea of pink penalty flags in October for breast cancer awareness. Please write back. From, Dante Cano.

Cano's father told ABC that Dante is sensitive to health problems because his sister has a rare genetic disorder.

The Asher Holmes Elementary School student and his family were also invited to the Met Life stadium to present the flags to officials before the game, reports USA Today.

“Dante had a great idea, and I am looking forward to meeting with him on Sunday to put it into action,” Goodell said in a statement released by the league. “Sometimes the simplest ideas can be the best. I applaud Dante for sending in his recommendation.”
