Looking to write a perfect end to their season, the San Francisco Giants are turning the ball over to their perfect pitcher. Matt Cain, who twirled the 22nd perfect game in MLB history in June, will take the mound for Game 4 of the 2012 World Series at Comerica Park. Having won the first three games of the best-of-seven Fall Classic, the Giants are just one win away from winning the seventh championship in the franchise's 129-year history. Of the previous 23 teams to run out to a 3-0 lead in the World Series, 20 popped champagne after Game 4 while the other three sewed up the championship in five games.

The American League champion Detroit Tigers are entrusting their comeback hopes to right-handed strikeout artist Max Scherzer. The 6-foot-3 pitcher turned in a 7-3 record with a 3.51 ERA over 14 starts at Comerica Park during the regular season.

"I absolutely relish it. I mean, this is the start of a lifetime to be able to pitch in the World Series," Scherzer said of the stakes of his start before Game 3, via ASAP Sports. "You know, every game you pitch in the World Series is a must‑win game, so what better opportunity than the one I have. "

To make Game 5 necessary on Monday, Scherzer will likely need to quiet a San Francisco lineup that has been making noise for more than a week. Of course, Scherzer's teammates Anibal Sanchez and Doug Fister both pitched extremely well in games 2 and 3 but got no help from the offense. Giants pitchers (with some help from Gregor Blanco) have combined to shutout the Tigers in the past two games. Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and the rest of the Tigers will have to put a few runs on the board in order to extend the World Series. If Detroit can stave off elimination then they'll be able to send reigning Cy Young winner Justin Verlander to the hill for Game 5.

Will the Tigers give Verlander another World Series start? Or will Matt Cain pitch the Giants to their second world championship in three seasons?
