In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, widespread power outages have been reported throughout the Northeast. Largely affected states include New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The map below shows power outages across the state of Massachusetts, along with projected timetables for restored electricity. The information was compiled from data provided by National Grid as of 9 p.m. ET Tuesday night. As of Wednesday afternoon, about 85,000 customers were still without power in Massachusetts.
The Bay State is recovering quickly, and, according to the Boston Globe, "incredible progress" could be made by the end of the day. Massachusetts is recovering at such a pace that the state has even diverted two National Guard helicopters and some Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency staff to neighboring New York and Connecticut to help with relief efforts there.
On New York's Long Island, 90 percent of residents are still without power as downed trees and power lines have caused all sorts of problems. Exact timetables for restoring power in the hardest hit areas have not yet been determined, though crews are working around the clock to get things back to normal.
