Party Patrol Police Approved For San Fernando Valley

Did Someone Call For Party Patrol?

With more than 2,100 parties a year in his district, Councilman Richard Alarcon on Tuesday won City Council approval to divert $46,000 to the Los Angeles Police Department to create a "party patrol."

The money, from Community Redevelopment Funds available to Alarcon, will be used to pay for officers to respond to complaints about parties, as well as work with party hosts to control the size of parties.

"We had a friendly gathering this past weekend that, unfortunately, ended up with the death of a young person," Alarcon said, referring a 19-year-old man stabbed to death a party in Sylmar.

"That's what this is ended to avoid," Alarcon said.

"The reality is you have a combination of alcohol, drugs and uninvited guests and it creates a violent setting."

Alarcon said he hopes to see party hosts contact the LAPD to make them aware of upcoming events so they can work together to deal with problems. ___
