VOX Opera Festival Announces New Lineup

The New York City Opera has recently announced the six selections that will appear in this year's VOX Festival in New York, a workshop program for new American operas.

This year the festival will be presented in association with OPERA America's New Works Forum. The works cover a variety of topics, from the historical to the political, but all seem to be incredibly ambitious. John Zorn has a tribute to Hildegard von Bingen, the 11th century visionary composer who was very much before her time, while Lucas Richmond turns to the '70s with his piece on the Baader-Meinhof gang, aka the Red Army Faction, a fashionable German terrorist group.

The six affordable operas will debut at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on November 8 at 7:30PM; tickets are only $25 each.

Visit the New York City Opera for details, and be sure to check out the slideshow of the composers below.
