Iowa Polls 2012: Closing Time, Opening Time, And Where To Vote

Iowa, are you ready to vote?

Find out exactly what you need to know about voting in Iowa below for Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.

The Iowa polls closing time is 9 p.m. Central Time, later than the closing time for many states.

The Iowa polls opening time is 7 a.m. local time.

There is early voting in Iowa, so many have voted already. Some political observers say the Obama campaign has had a robust ground game urging early votes so has an advantage in the state. Indeed, more Democrats have voted in Iowa than Republicans in early voting.

Of course, there are many ballots still to be cast.

Not sure where to vote? The Iowa's Secretary of State website has a handy search tool to find your polling place.

There are six electoral votes up for grabs in Iowa in the presidential race. Barack Obama captured Iowa in 2008 and it has voted Democrat in five of the last six presidential elections. See our election map here.
