As New York and New Jersey continue to feel the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy, another brutal weather phenomenon is headed to the storm-battered region.
According to NBC News, a nor'easter will be bringing rain, wind and freezing temperatures to the East Coast this week.
"Though this storm will not have near the magnitude of the impact Sandy had, the combination of rain, wind and snow will add insult to injury for the recovery process along the East Coast," the Weather Channel’s Chris Dolce said.
Over the next three days cold air will drop in to the northeast corridor of the U.S., bringing wind chills down to 33 degrees to areas that were severely impacted by Sandy. Gusts of wind up to 55 mph are likely to reach the region by Wednesday.
The nor'easter could also cause coastal flooding and beach erosion; more power outages are also likely.
"Prepare for more outages," said meteorologist Joe Pollina of the National Weather Service, according to the Associated Press. "Stay indoors. Stock up again."
The NWS warns that even more destruction can be expected this week, as buildings and trees rendered vulnerable by Sandy are exposed to the intense weather conditions.
The nor'easter is going to prove challenging for more than a million people in New York and New Jersey who are still without power. According to ABC News, there are 780,000 homes without power in New Jersey, while 540,000 outages continue in New York. Moreover, tens of thousands are still displaced or homeless.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that 20,000 people in the city "could need housing help" this week as temperatures dip.
North Carolina, Washington, D.C., as well as some areas in New England and Pennsylvania, can also expect harsh weather conditions this week.
