Channeling Sade: The '80s Soul Singer's Timeless Beauty Makes A Comeback (PHOTOS)

Sade's red lips and slicked-back hair get remixed.

Everyone has a singer or band whose lyrics speak to their very own stories of love and loss. Sade is the songstress who has penned my heart's love letters. While I was barely a baby when the Nigerian-born British star belted out hits like "Smooth Operator," "Your Love Is King" and "The Sweetest Taboo," I'd find solace in her melodies years later when I experienced my first heartbreak. But recently I've found myself taking more of a cue from Sade's signature beauty look: red lipstick and slicked-back hair. And I'm not the only one who's captivated by the "Soldier of Love."

French designer Jean Paul Gaultier paid homage to Sade and other '80s icons at his spring 2013 fashion show, sending top black models like Joan Smalls and Jourdan Dunn down the runway wearing flapper-inspired LBDs with slicked-back ponytails, bold red lips and gold hoop earrings. Their resemblance to Sade was uncanny, and the hair and makeup added the perfect touch to Gaultier's sophisticated collection.

But this isn't reserved for brown-skinned girls. Celebrities, including Petra Nemcova, Poppy Delevingne and Chloe Sevigny, have all stepped out sporting red pouts and smooth strands. With holiday season just around the corner, I can't think of a more simple, yet sophisticated party look.

Relive Sade's greatest beauty moments from the 1980s in the slideshow below. Keep clicking through to see how the musician's style has been remixed on the runway and red carpet, plus products to get the look yourself.
