Election Day 2012: Send Photos Of You The Voter, Tagged #GPOTV

This Is What You Look Like On Election Day

If you're voting today, snap a picture of yourself and send it to us. We're going to be publishing Election Day selfies all day long.

Yes, it's a chance to show the world how good-looking and patriotic you are -- but more than that, it may actually help strengthen democracy. A study published in Nature in September found that people who see evidence on social media of their friends voting are more likely to go out and vote themselves.

Over at Tumblr, they're using the tag #GPOTV -- a combination of Gratuitous Picture Of Yourself (it's a Tumblr thing) and Get Out The Vote.

Please note that it's illegal in many states to take a picture of your ballot or to take any photos inside the polling place. You can check your state laws here, but to be on the safe side, we'd advise not taking photos inside the polling place at all.

We'd love to see your shots. Click the green "Add Photos" button below to send in yours, or tag your photos anywhere online with #GPOTV.

What was your polling place like today? The Huffington Post is eager to hear your experiences and see your photos. Email us at openreporting@huffingtonpost.com.
