North Carolina Election Results 2012 MAP: Presidential Winner For The Tar Heel State (REAL-TIME DATA)

LOOK: North Carolina Results

Below you can find the 2012 presidential election results for the state of North Carolina.

In 2008, the Tar Heel State was a crucial battleground for President Barack Obama, who eeked out a win by just under 15,000 votes, or a 0.4 percent advantage over Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Including absentee ballots, nearly 2.7 million votes were cast during the 2012 early voting period in North Carolina, according to WRAL.com. If the presidential race in North Carolina proves to be as close as it was last time around, those early votes could play a large role in determining the state's fate.

However, pre-election polls showed GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney with a small lead in the state, outpacing the president by about 2 percentage points, according to the HuffPost Pollster estimate. A little over month ago, the state seemed to be entirely up for grabs, but heading into Election Day it appeared less likely that Obama could carry it.
