Sherrod Brown Election Results: Democratic Ohio Senator Wins Against Josh Mandel

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) won reelection against State Treasurer Josh Mandel Tuesday, projects the Associated Press.

Recent polls showed Brown with a consistent but narrow lead his bid for a second term.

Mandel benefitted from over $22 million in outside spending, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. His opponent, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), has had over $14 million in outside help. The Karl Rove-linked Crossroads GPS has boosted Mandel by $6.3 million, in addition to his $4.3 million from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and over $1 million from the National Federation of Independent Business, none of which are required to disclose their donors. Brown had millions more spent against him in issue ads, which are not counted in Federal Election Commission data compiled by CRP.

Mandel had also said he would have opposed the auto bailout, which hurt him in the state.

Brown first won election to the Senate in 2006. He served in the U.S. House from 1993-2007.
