CTA Model Train In Action: Romeoville Man's Creations Mimic The 'L' In Miniature (PHOTOS)

About three years have passed since Terry Gaskin of Romeoville began his mini-homage to Chicago's iconic 'L' tracks.

According to Gaskin, a long-time model train enthusiast, he created the project with the goal of capturing "the impression of Chicago" based on his memories of life in the city rather than directly modeling the layout after specific locations. A more impressionist than realist take, if you will.

"I’ve always been fascinated by the L," Gaskin explained to HuffPost Chicago. "Just something about either the train almost always falling off or looking into all the windows as you go along."

Gaskin, who now works downtown but said he does not often able to ride the train, said that he builds most of the components of the layout himself -- minus the train tracks -- so the building process is a lengthy one. He posts photos and videos of his progress online so that fans and other model train builders can catch a glimpse of his work.

The layout so far includes scenes of a Brown Line-esque station, a Sheridan Red Line station and the train tracks passing by Cabrini-Green. Gaskin even recreated a real-life North Line Red Line "track malfunction" for, you know, "accident investigation purposes," according to his blog.
