Beauty Street Style: Aminta Iriarte, Fashion Blogger, Swears By Rum & Eggs For Shiny Hair

If you can bear not to drink it... put it in your hair!

It seems like ladies everywhere are wearing bold lipstick these days. When we stopped fashion blogger Aminta Iriarte in Union Square, naturally we had to know her bright shade. "Lancome Rouge In Love #170," she told us. "It stays on, even after coffee and such."

When conversation naturally shifted to her hair, she admitted to quite a routine. "I always sleep with my hair in a bun and with satin pillowcases. With cotton cases the hair doesn't slide as well, which causes friction and more tangles," she said. "I started doing it because I read that's what Beyoncé does, and she has fab hair! For the same reason, it also helps prevent face wrinkles since satin doesn't wrinkle like cotton."

As far as keeping her hair super shiny, she relies on a family tradition: "It's my old-school Latina grandma's recipe: dark rum, egg, and olive oil (if you have really smooth hair, then skip the olive oil). I use a half cup and mix one egg and a little dark rum and the olive oil -- the ratio depends on what I'm looking to do. If I want really smooth hair that day then I'd use more olive oil. The rum is to make your hair thicker. I try not to apply it directly to the scalp, but more on the middle and ends of my hair. Leave it on from anywhere from 20-60 minutes -- but use a bath cap to keep the mess contained -- and then rinse it out. I swear by it!"
