Megan Kimbrough Dies Months After Husband Allegedly Set Her On Fire In Florida Home

Posted: Updated:

A young mother of two died months after her husband allegedly set her on fire with gasoline in their home, the Ledger reported.

Doctors in Florida initially thought Megan Kimbrough wouldn't survive the night when she was airlifted to a hospital with burns covering more than 80 percent of her body. She clung to life, undergoing 12 skin graft surgeries, only to succumb early on Saturday to multiple infections, station WFTS reported.

At the 26-year-old's bedside stood her mother, who posted a Facebook update about Kimbrough's deteriorating condition on Friday.

"Meg is having a rough morning and my heart is breaking and for as long as there is light in her beautiful eyes I will hold onto hope," read the post, according to ABC News. "When I was with her last night I desperately wanted to hold her but I can not so I will wrap my love around her."

Kimbrough's husband, Joshua Kimbrough, 32, allegedly doused her with fuel and lit her on fire on Aug. 4. She ran from the house and neighbors smothered her to extinguish the flames.

Joshua Kimbrough fled and allegedly embarked on a crime spree. Police attribute an armed car jacking, home burglary and credit card theft to him, the Tampa Tribune reported.

When prosecutors told him in the summer that they expected his wife to die, they say he replied: "I am done with this [expletive] show."

His father told WFTS that his son admitted to using methamphetamine, Xanax and Klonopin the night of the attack.

Joshua Kimbrough's charges of attempted first-degree murder could be upgraded now that his wife died, the Polk County Sheriff's office announced. He also charged with arson, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, attempted kidnapping and resisting an officer, according to the Polk County Sheriff's office website.
