Kentucky Women Arrested After Kids Photographed With Marijuana Plants, Joints (VIDEO)

Mom, Grandmother Charged After Store Reports Pics Of Kids With Pot

A Kentucky mother-daughter duo was arrested this week after a local store reported photos of children appearing to smoke marijuana.

Beth Hensley and Tracy Hensley were approached by police after employees at a Leslie County Rite Aid notified authorities when they saw the content of the images brought in on Friday, according to WAVE.

“There were several children in pictures holding marijuana and had marijuana joints rolled up and was attempting to smoke them,” Leslie County Deputy Adrian Cornett told WKYT.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, the children were boys. Cornett says one was 1 year old and the other was between 3 and 5 years old.

When authorities arrived at Beth Hensley's residence, they found 24 marijuana plants around her home, WLWT reports. "Police also found processed marijuana in a baggie," according to the station.

According to WAVE, Beth Hensley admitted posing her young grandchildren for the pictures, but said it was all just a joke. "It was just some to show them later on in a picture album how crazy their grandma was," she said.

Beth Hensley is now charged with trafficking, possession and cultivating marijuana, and Tracy Hensley, the mother, is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and unlawful transaction with a minor, reports WAVE.

Five children, ages 1 to 7, were removed from Tracy Hensley's home and placed with a relative, at the time of the arrests.

Cornett said he had never seen a similar case in his 35 years as a police officer. "It's beyond me," he said, according to WLWT.

Authorities take these types of incidents seriously, even if the pictures are posed. Earlier this year, a viral picture of a baby allegedly doing a keg stand at an Arizona State tailgate led to an investigation by local law enforcement. In that case, the photo was found to be staged, and no charges were filed.
