So, how exactly does the nonprofit sector impact the economy?
After compiling data related to employment, donation trends and a number of other significant economic drivers, the Rebecca Gordon Group created a nifty infographic outlining how the growing sector will positively affect the state of the economy.
While charitable giving dropped in both 2008 and 2009, it's expected to climb to $360 billion in 2012. That's a 3.8 percent increase from last year. Employment in the nonprofit sector also continues to get a boost. From 2000 to 2010, employment increased 2.1 percent overall, while for-profit employment decreased 0.6 percent.
